When should I take my child to the orthodontist?


The American Association of Orthodontists suggests that an orthodontist sees children around the ages of 7-8. Although this may at first seem young and they may not have lost all their baby teeth, an early evaluation by Dr. Tracy or Dr. Jia will allow them to scan your child’s entire mouth. Not only do we check for crowded and crooked teeth, we also check jaw alignment to prepare for any issues later. The earlier you make your appointment, the better, and it allows for dental and orthodontic problems to be caught right away and prepare for a healthy and straight smile in the future.

What age do kids usually need braces?


Most children who need braces, will have them between the ages of 9 and 13. By taking your child to the orthodontist, we can get an examination of their entire mouth and jaw and make predictions about their future orthodontic care. Braces should be put on after all baby teeth have been lost. It is not abnormal for adults to need braces later in life as well.

Do braces leave permanent results?


The result of your braces treatment will make your teeth aligned and straightened for a beautiful smile. While they may require additional orthodontic treatment, such as wearing a retainer to maintain those amazing results. Continuous care and good oral habits will help keep your new beautiful smile.

How long do patients need to wear their braces?

The treatment plan for braces looks different for each patient. In many cases, braces are worn for 18-24 months. For cases that may be harder to correct or require more adjusting and tightening, it could take up to 3 years to correct. This may be the case for older or adult patients who are seeking orthodontic care. For more straightforward cases, or those who choose Invisalign clear aligners, your case may take as little as six months to a year to correct.
