Oral Surgery Assistant

POSITION SUMMARY: Performs a variety of oral surgery assisting duties, in compliance with state regulations, to promote quality dental care for patients/parents in a stress-free, comfortable environment. Assists the doctors and OS team, instructs patients/parents in post-surgery care, communicates effectively with patients/parents, maintains equipment and inventory, exposes radiographs, adheres to OSHA requirements.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide assistance and hands-on support to the surgeon and team during procedures
  • Setting up of operatories with appropriate instruments and equipment
  • Expose radiographs as needed
  • Review patients’ medical history and records
  • Prepare patients for diagnosis and/or treatment
  • Assist oral surgeon during procedures
  • Charting and record treatment information in chart
  • Perform post-operative patient care
  • Clean, disinfect and stock operatories
  • Control supplies and order as needed
  • Lab work including bleach trays, temporary crowns, pouring and trimming models,
  • unpack and follow lab cases
  • General:
    • Perform any reasonable request from manager and/or DMDs
    •  Responsible for complying with OSHA, HIPAA security and privacy policies at all times.

JOB SPECIFICATION:

  • Minimum high school graduate
  • Oral surgery experience
  • Radiology certified in NH required
  • DAANCE preferred, DANB CDA preferred

Sterilization – autoclaves, dry claves, ultrasonic, handpiece equipment, Statim, intraoral camera
Nitrous oxide

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must be in good physical condition and able to withstand the stress and demands of an active
practice. Must be able to endure long hours of standing, walking, stooping, bending, and
sitting. Manual dexterity, good eye-hand coordination, and adequate vision and hearing are
needed in daily work.

PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT/WORKING CONDITIONS:
Encounter clinical and office environment in work routine. Variable degrees of mental and
physical stress; variable amounts of standing, sitting and walking. Exposure to blood, body
fluids and contaminants are possible (clinicians). Frequent intervals devoted to keyboard
manipulation for inputting and retrieving data. Limited physical activity related to moving,
lifting, and transporting objects.

Schedule: In Office position onlyPart Time

3 Days a Week: Monday, Thursday, and Friday (in office)
