Careers: Orthodontic Assistant

Job purpose
The Orthodontic Assistant is responsible for performing a variety of orthodontic assisting duties,
in compliance with state regulations, to promote quality orthodontic care for patients/parents in a
stress-free, comfortable environment. In this role you will assist the doctor in orthodontic
procedures, instructs patients/parents in oral hygiene techniques and communicate effectively
with patient and parents.


Duties and responsibilities

  • Review patient records and medical history transactions.
  • Prepare patients for diagnosis and treatment.
  • Reconcile accounts to ensure their accuracy.
  • Perform various orthodontic procedures.
  • Chart and record treatment information
  • Clean and stock operatories and clinical areas as needed
    Qualifications
  • High school diploma is require
  • Orthodontic assisting or dental assisting experience preferred
  • Radiology certification in NH required
  • DANB COA required
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with integrity.
  • Strong communication skills.

Working conditions
Encounter clinical and office environment in work routine. Variable degrees of mental and
physical stress; variable amounts of standing, sitting and walking. Exposure to blood, body fluids
and contaminates is possible (clinicians). Frequent intervals devoted to keyboard manipulation
for imputing and retrieving data. Limited physical activity related to moving, lifting, and
transporting objects.


Physical requirements
Must be in good physical condition and able to withstand the stress and demands of an active
practice. Must be able to endure long hours of standing, walking, stooping, bending, and sitting.
Manual dexterity, good eye-hand coordination, and adequate vision and hearing are needed in
daily work.
